Situation:
Mo Green, a lifelong advocate for public education and a seasoned leader in North Carolina’s school systems launched his campaign to become the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Despite his impressive credentials, Mo faced several challenges: he was a first-time candidate entering a three-way primary and later found himself up against an extreme opponent, requiring a rapid shift in the campaign’s focus to counter divisive rhetoric and build a coalition of support across the state. Mo turned to Maven Strategies to craft a comprehensive approach to fundraising, messaging, outreach, and campaign execution, ensuring his vision for North Carolina’s public schools resonated with voters.
Approach:
Maven Strategies built a comprehensive, data-driven plan centered on branding, fundraising, and messaging. We created a cohesive campaign identity with a custom logo, website, digital media, and direct mail that connected with voters. Our strategic fundraising efforts raised over $3 million—an unprecedented amount for this race—allowing Mo to fund an aggressive direct mail program in the primary and statewide television ads in the general election. Our messaging emphasized Mo’s leadership in education while clearly contrasting his record with his opponent’s extreme positions. This helped rally a wide base of support and positioned Mo as the clear choice for public education.
Results:
Mo Green flipped the State Superintendent’s office in a state Trump carried three (3) times. His campaign energized educators, parents, and advocates across the state.
